Herbs perennial. Flowering stems 5–40 cm tall, spreading villous. Radical leaves 4–30 cm including petiole; auricles of stipules free, apex acute to acuminate; petiole spreading, slightly rigid villous; leaf blade interrupted pinnate with 5–12 pairs of leaflets; leaflets obovate to broadly ovate or broadly linear to lanceolate, 1–5 × 0.8–1.6 cm, abaxially strigose or villous, margin roughly serrate; cauline leaves: auricles of stipules herbaceous, margin serrate; leaf blade resembling that of radical leaves but pairs of leaflets fewer higher up stem. Inflorescence cymose, few flowered. Flowers 1–2 cm in diam. Sepals triangular-elliptic, abaxially villous; epicalyx segments oblong to obovate, broader and slightly shorter than sepals, abaxially pilose, apex 2–5-serrate, rarely entire. Petals yellow, obovate to broadly so, apex rounded. Carpels glabrous; style sub-basal, fusiform. Achenes smooth. Fl. and fr. Jul–Sep. 2n = 28.
