Bracts linear, 4-15 X 0.5-1.5 mm. Corolla purple-red, outside puberulent, inside glabrous.

After publication of the family treatment for the Flora of China, this was treated as Primulina longgangensis var. hongyao (S. Z. Huang) Mich. Möller & A. Weber (Taxon 60: 783. 2011).
