Allium congestum G. Don; A. declinatum Willdenow; A. deflexum Fischer ex Schultes & J. H. Schultes; A. fischeri Besser ex Schultes & J. H. Schultes; A. satoanum Kitagawa.

Bulb solitary or paired, subcylindric, 0.5--1 cm in diam., attached to a horizontal, robust rhizome; tunic light brown, sometimes tinged with black, subleathery, apex usually entire, sometimes laciniate. Leaves shorter than scape, 0.7--1.5 mm wide, semiterete, adaxially channeled, margin scabrous. Scape 10--25 cm, terete, covered with leaf sheaths only at base. Spathe 1-valved, persistent. Umbel hemispheric. Pedicels subequal, 2--3 × as long as perianth, bracteolate or ebracteolate. Perianth pale purple to purple-red; outer segments ovate, 3.2--5 × 1.8--2.9 mm; inner ones oblong to oblong-ovate, 4--5.5 × 2.2--3.2 mm, apex obtuse, distal margin and apex irregularly crenulate. Filaments equal, equaling to slightly longer than perianth segments, connate at base and adnate to perianth segments; outer ones subulate; inner ones narrowly triangular-subulate, 2--3 × as wide as outer ones. Ovary obovoid, minutely tuberculate, without concave nectaries at base. Style exserted. Fl. and fr. Jul--Aug.
