Leaves lanceolate, ca. 2.3 cm × 1--2 mm, glabrous, veins 6--8, apex acute. Scapes 5--23, 6--13 cm, 5- or 6-ribbed; sheath 2--2.3 cm; receptacle densely villous; heads blackish, 3--4 mm in diam.; involucral bracts straw-colored, obovate-oblanceolate, ca. 1.8 × 0.2--1.2 mm, apex obtuse; floral bracts blackish, obovate-oblanceolate, 1.8--2 × ca. 0.7 mm, hoary toward acute apex. Male flowers: sepals 3, spathelike, flat, ca. 1.5 mm, apex hairy, 3-lobed, lobes ovate; petals 3, lanceolate, hairy at apex, gland black; stamens 6, anthers black. Female flowers: sepals 3, blackish, free, ca. 1.2 × 0.7 mm, flat, hoary toward acuminate apex; petals 3, oblanceolate, ca. 2 × 0.2 mm, pilose, gland black. Seeds dark brownish, ellipsoid, 0.4--0.5 mm; testa reticulate, cells transversely elongate, prickles 3--5 per cell, linear. Fl. and fr. Sep--Nov.
