Juncus bulbosus Linnaeus var. nigricans Regel; J. bulbosus var. salsuginosus (Turczaninow ex E. Meyer) Regel; J.gerardii Loisel var. salsuginosus (Turczaninow ex E. Meyer) Buchenau; J. salsuginosus Turczaninow ex E. Meyer.
Rhizome not elongate. Cauline leaf absent. Perianth segments 3.1--3.5 × 1--1.3 mm. Capsule 3.1--3.6 mm.
Some recent authors separate Juncus salsuginosus from J. heptopotamicus.
Grasslands; 2400--3100 m. Xinjiang [Mongolia, Russia].
