Plants perennial, tufted. Rhizome thick. Stems terete, 8--18 cm × 0.6--1 mm, striate. Cataphylls few. Basal leaves 2--4; leaf sheath auricles obtuse; leaf blade flat, 2.5--7.5 cm, adaxially smooth, abaxially longitudinally striate, apex acute. Inflorescences compound cymes, 2--5-branched; branches unequal; involucral bract shorter than inflorescence. Flowers solitary or in clusters of 2 or 3. Bracteoles 2, broadly ovate, ca. 2 × 1.1 mm, apex obtuse. Perianth segments brownish yellow, oblong-lanceolate, 3--3.3 × 1--1.3 mm, subequal, margin narrowly scarious, apex acuminate. Stamens 6; filaments 0.3--0.5 mm; anthers 1.2--1.6 mm. Ovary oblong, 3-loculed. Style ca. 1 mm; stigmas ca. 1.2 mm. Capsule straw-colored, trigonous ellipsoid, 2--2.8 mm, apex mucronate. Seeds reddish brown, obovoid to oblong, 0.6--0.7 mm, striate. Fl. Jun--Jul, fr. Jul--Aug.

Wet places near villages, reservoir margins. Xinjiang [Afghanistan, Mongolia, S Russia; SW Asia].
