Plants small, up to 5 mm high, dull, green to yellowish green, in loose tufts. Stems erect, simple or sparsely branched, radiculose only at the base; central strand absent. Leaves up to 3 mm long, strongly crispate when dry, erect-patent when moist, oblong-lanceolate to narrowly lingulate, leaf base not clearly narrower, the upper part slightly narrowed from the middle, broadly acute at the apex; margins plane, serrate in the upper 1/3; costa strong, percurrent; upper cells rounded quadrate to hexagonal, 10–14 µm wide, not particularly thick-walled; basal cells rectangular, 26–39 µm × 8–12 µm, thin-walled, hyaline. Perichaetial leaves slightly larger than upper stem leaves. Setae slender, straight, up to 3 mm long, yellowish; capsules ellipsoid, 8-ribbed when dry; annuli none; peristome teeth linear-lanceolate, yellowish or hyaline, smooth, sometimes perforate. Spores spherical, finely papillose.
Type. China: Yunnan, Si-la, between Mekong and Salwin, alt. 3900 m, Handel-Mazzetti 1866 (holotype H).
