Ital., n. ser. 5: 177. 1898. Type. China: Shaanxi (Schen-si), Qing-ling (Mt.), P. J. Giraldi 1826 (isotype H).

Plants slender, yellowish green to reddish brown, in loose tufts. Stems erect, densely foliate. Leaves crisped when dry, spreading when moist, narrowly ovate-lanceolate, sheathing at the base, narrowly acuminate at the apex; margins entire, recurved, borders not differentiated; costa strong, percurrent; upper leaf cells rounded hexagonal; basal cells longer and larger, hyaline. Perichaetial leaves not particularly differentiated. Setae straight, purple or reddish; capsules shortly cylindrical, usually yellowish brown; peristome teeth erect, linear-lanceolate, densely papillose; opercula long-rostrate. Calyptrae cucullate.

Type. Europe.

Chinese specimens examined: HEBEI: Dong-ling (Mt.), L.-Q. Yu 398 (HKAS). SHAANXI: near Yellow River, Yellow River Exped. Team 1642 (H). TAIWAN: J. Suzuki 2667 (H). YUNNAN: De-qin Co., Handel-Mazzetti 8091 (H).

Habitat: on wet rocks in shade; Distribution: China, Russia, and Europe.
