Plants small, less than 10 mm high, in loose or dense tufts. Stems erect, simple. Leaves involute when dry, erect-spreading when moist, oblong-elliptic, obtusely apiculate at the apex; margins entire; costa stout, percurrent; upper leaf cells small, rounded hexagonal, very thick-walled, smooth; basal cells larger, rectangular. Setae slender, straight; capsules erect, cylindrical; opercula conic-rostrate with a long beak.

Type. Indonesia: Java.

Habitat: on rocks or soil near streams or wet places; also on thin soil over rocks in forests; Distribution: China and Indonesia.
