Leptodontium subfilescens Broth., Symb. Sin. 4: 35. 1929, hom. illeg.

Plants slender, 15–20 mm high, yellowish green, in loose tufts. Stems erect, branched, radiculose at the base. Leaves appressed when dry, erect-spreading when moist, oblong-elliptic to ovate-ligulate, abruptly acute with an apiculus or rounded-obtuse at the apex; margins entire below, coarsely serrate above the middle; costa stout, ending just below the apex; upper leaf cells quadrate to hexagonal, thin-walled, orderly arranged, with several simple papillae. Sporophytes not seen.

Type. China: Yunnan: Mekong-Salwin-Scheidekette, Handel-Mazzetti 9983 (holotype H).

Chinese specimens examined: SICHUAN: Kang-ding Co., M. Zang 5302a (HKAS); Wen-chuan Co., J.-X. Luo 3405b (PE), Q.-Z. Zheng 103 (PE). XIZANG: Cuo-na Co., S.-K. Chen 5152 (HKAS); Ji-long Co., S.-K. Chen 232 (HKAS); Lang Co., M. Zang 1916a (HKAS); Lin-zhi Co., Z.-X. Tan 7–2 (HKAS). YUNNAN: Nu-jiang (River), Handel-Mazzetti 8364 (H).

Habitat: often on forest ground or rotten trees; also on rocks or soil; Distribution: China and India.
