Plants small, 4–10 mm high, green or yellowish green, in loose tufts. Stems erect, simple or branched at base. Leaves contorted-curved when dry, spreading when moist, oblong or oblong-obovate, abruptly acute, 2.5–3.5 mm long; margins entire, plane or only slightly recurved near base, bordered by a few rows of thick-walled cells; costa slender, excurrent as a long, yellowish awn; upper leaf cells subquadrate to rounded-hexagonal, 10–21 µm in diameter, smooth, walls more thickened at corners; basal cells elongate-rectangular, smooth, thin-walled. Autoicous. Setae straight, 15–17 mm long, reddish brown; capsules slightly curved, cylindrical, 3.5–4.0 mm long; peristome teeth linear, twisted, reddish brown; basal membrane high, nearly half as long as the teeth; annuli consisting of 2 rows of vesiculose cells, persistent; opercula conic-subulate with a long beak. Spores 13–15 µm in diameter, yellowish green, smooth or finely papillose.
