Campylopus caudatus (C. Müll.) Mont. in Dozy & Molk., Bryol. Jav. 1: 78. 1858. Dicranum caudatum C. Müll., Syn. Musc. Frond. 1: 401. 1848. Campylopus scabridorsus Dix., Hong Kong Naturalist Suppl. 2: 5. 1933. Type. China: Hong Kong, Repulse Bay, Ah Nin H22A, 23B (syntypes BM, SYS).

Plants small to medium-sized, 1–3 cm high, comose foliate, yellowish green above, reddish brown below, in compact tufts. Stems erect, slightly curved, simple or rarely branched, radiculose at base. Leaves 3–4 mm × 0.4–0.5 mm, lanceolate, not contracted at base, ending in a long, serrate, concolorous tip; margins plane, mostly entire, only serruate near the apex; costa occupying ca. 1/3– ½ the leaf base width, excurrent, not ending in a hyaline point, smooth, rarely ridged at back in the upper part, with distinctly dorsal stereid band and with ventral substereids in transverse section; upper cells subquadrate to short-rectangular or oval, incrassate; basal cells moderately long-rectangular, thick-walled; alar cells differentiated, forming indistinct auricles. Dioicous. Setae yellowish, flexuose when dry, cygneous when moist; capsules light brown, darkening with age, curved and strumose at base; opercula long-rostrate, reddish brown; peristome teeth not seen. Calyptrae ciliate at base. Spores not seen. Vegetative popagules small, deciduous.

Habitat: on rotten wood or bases of trees; Distribution: China, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, and New Guinea.
