Dicranella coarctata var. torrentium Card., Beih. Bot. Centralbl. 19(20): 92. 1905.

Plants minute, 3–5 mm high, brownish green, in dense tufts. Stems erect, usually branched; central strand scarcely developed. Leaves erect, lanceolate to linear-lanceolate, 1.5–2.0 mm × 0.2–0.3 mm; margins plane, entire below, denticulate near the apex; costa percurrent, rather broad at base, occupying ¼ – ½ the leaf base width; leaf cells rather thick-walled. Capsules smooth to scarcely plicate when dry (fide Cardot 1905).

Type. China: Taiwan, Taitum, Faurie 43 (holotype PC; isotype H).

Specimens examined: HONG KONG: Tai Mo Shan (Mt.), C.-H. Gao 1986 (SHM). TAIWAN: see the type information cited above.

Habitat: on soil; Distribution: endemic to China.

According to Cardot (1905), the capsules were described as smooth or scarcely plicate from the type collection. However, the isotype we examined does not contain any sporophytes.
