Plants slender, soft, up to 2.0 cm high, yellowish green above, brownish below, not shiny, in dense tufts. Stems erect, simple or rarely branched, radiculose at the base. Leaves distantly spaced, lanceolate from an oblong-ovate, sheathing and clasping base, abruptly narrowed to a long, subtubulose or subulate apex; margins plane, entire or serrulate near the tips, sometimes bistratose above; costa percurrent to shortly excurrent, smooth at back above; upper cells rectangular, thin-walled, usually bistratose; basal cells in the sheathing base, linear-rectangular, 30–50 µm × 13–18 µm, thin-walled; alar cells not differentiated. Dioicous. Male plants similar to the females. Perigonia terminal, globose. Perichaetial leaves similar to the upper stem leaves. Setae solitary, elongate, straight, 1.2–1.8 cm long, pale brown to brownish; capsules oblong-ovoid, inclined, sometimes horizontal, smooth or slightly furrowed when dry and empty; annuli poorly developed, in 1 row of pale cells; peristome teeth lanceolate, pale yellowish brown, divided about halfway down, vertically striolate from the middle to the base, papillose above. Spores spherical, brownish, finely papillose.
