7. Didymodon fallax (Hedw.) Zand., Phytologia. 41:28. 1978; Barbula fallax Hedw., Sp. Musc. Frond. 120. 1801.

Barbula fallacioides Dix. in P.-C. Chen, Hedwigia 80: 204. 1941, nom. nud.

Plants medium-sized to rather large, 30–50 mm high, yellowish green to reddish brown, in loose tufts. Stems erect, usually branched. Leaves contorted-curved when dry, squarrose when moist, broadly ovate-lanceolate to triangular-lanceolate; margins entire, revolute; costa stout, percurrent, reddish brown; upper leaf cells rounded hexagonal, thick-walled, with 1 to several lower papillae; basal cells short-rectangular, mostly smooth.

Habitat: on rocks or soil over rocks in shade; Distribution: China, nearly throughout Asia, Europe, and North America.
