Trichostomum barbuloides (Broth.) P.-C. Chen, Hedwigia 80: 168, pl. 21, f. 1–3. 1941, hom. illeg. Hyophila barbuloides Broth., Symb. Sin. 4: 37. 1929.

Plants small to medium-sized, to 20 mm high, green to yellowish green, in dense tufts. Stems erect, simple or irregularly branched, densely foliate. Leaves contorted-curved or wavy when dry, erecto-patent or weakly contorted when moist, narrowly ovate-lanceolate to ligulate, ca. 2.2 mm long, broadly acute to obtusely pointed, upper lamina somewhat concave, weakly sheathing at the base; margins entire, incurved and wavy; costa stout, percurrent or shortly excurrent as a mucro; upper leaf cells rounded-quadrate or rounded-hexagonal, 8–9 µm in diameter, moderately thick-walled, green and obscure, each cell with several large, circular papillae on both surfaces; basal cells slightly elongate, irregularly rectangular, smooth, hyaline. Sporophytes not seen.

Type. China: Yunnan, Nu-jiang River, Handel-Mazzetti 9101 (holotype H).

Specimens examined: HENAN: Xi-chuan Co., H.-J. Yu 6242 (PE). JIANGSU: Jin-ze, R.-L. Hu 108 (HSNU). ZHEJIANG: Hang-zhou City, R.-L. Hu 272 (HSNU).

Habitat: on rocks; Distribution: endemic to China.
