Woody unbranched plants with thick trunks. Leaves large, palm‑like, pinnate with circinate vernation, midrib thick, lateral veinsabsent. Male bracts (sporophylls) organised in cones. Female bracts terminal, spirally arranged, tomentose. Ovules 2 or more at the base of the female fronds
1 genus with 20 species; chiefly tropical Madagascar, E. Asia, Indomalaya, Australia & Japan. Represented in Pakistan by 1 genus and 2 species; which are cultivated.
