Annual. Leaves and sheaths shortly and densely pubescent. Panicle very dense, obovoid, the spikelets shortly pedicellate. Spikelets large, terete, several flowered, disarticulating above the glumes, the lower florets fertile, the upper sterile, ± reduced; lemma prominently (5-)9-nerved, the nerves excurrent below the tip as recurved awns flattened at the base.
A monotypic genus in Southwest Asia.
