Annuals. Leaf-blades flat or convolute. Inflorescence a panicle or rarely a raceme, the branches divaricate at maturity. Spikelets 2-9(-12)-flowered, breaking up at maturity variously below each floret, at the base of the pedicel and at the base of the branches. Glumes slightly to very unequal, ± keeled, acuminate to rounded or emarginate, not or shortly awned; lemma with 3 thick nerves, strongly keeled on all 3 nerves, acuminate to rounded, with hyaline margins, usually emarginate or 2-toothed at the tip, awnless or shortly awned from the sinus; palea as long as the lemma or almost so; stamens 3.

A genus of 4 species in the Mediterranean region and the Middle East; 1 species occurs in Pakistan.
