Climber with slender terete branches. Leaves opposite, 2-3-foliolate; leaflets 2, entire, the terminal one usually modified into a tendril. Flowers in axillary cymes. Calyx spathaceous, splitting on one side. Corolla tubular, dull red. Stamens 4, exserted. Stigma exserted. Capsule linear.
A monotypic genus, native of S.America.
