Perennial. Leaf-blades flat, finally involute, rounded or truncate at the base, linear-acuminate, the apex sharp and finally hard, glaucous, sparsely hirsute on both surfaces with bulbous-based, often crisped, hairs; sheaths striate, more or less hirsute with bulbous-based hairs; ligule a lacerate membrane. Inflorescence a panicle of few-several ascending racemose branches. Spikelets few-flowered. Glumes pale, membranous, sparsely villous to nearly glabrous, acute, slightly unequal. the lower 1-nerved, the upper 3-nerved; lemma keeled, 3-nerved, lanceolate-oblong, somewhat concave between the nerves, villous, the apex obtuse, entire; palea about as long as the lemma, villous. Caryopsis cylindrical.
