Perennial glabrous herb with thick caudex. Roots slender, cord-like or tuberous. Basal leaves of flowering stems scaly. Scaly leaves sessile, rosulate, brown, triangular to triangular-ovate. Flowering stems erect or ascending, simple. Leaves alternate, sessile, fleshy, oblong to linear, entire along the margin, terete. Inflorescence terminal corymbose, many-flowerd, compact to loosely arranged, bracteate. Flowers pedicellate, 5-6 merous, bisexual. Calyx polysepalous, sepals 5-6, fleshy, obtuse-acute. Corolla gamopetalous, lobes connate, nearly to the middle, campanulate-infundibular, pink, purplish red or violet, membranaceous. Stamens 10-12, basifixed, dithecous, in two whorls, filament adnate to the corolla-tube. Carpels 5-6, basally syncarpic, style slender, long, many ovules per locule. Nectar scales square. Follicles 5-6, erect. Seeds numerous, oblong, linear-elliptic, brown with longitudinal striae.
A genus of 12 species mainly distributed in Central Asia. Represented in Pakistan by 2 species.
