Lemma oblong-elliptic, hyaline, dorsally compressed, hairy, deeply bifid at the tip, the lateral nerves produced as two stout scabrid bristles; callus conical, acute, bearded; awn arising from the back of the lemma, persistent, geniculate, twisted below the knee.
A monotypic genus in the Himalayas.
Trikeraia is a distinctive genus differing from both Piptatherum and Stipa in having a deeply bifid lemma with awned teeth which does not become indurated at maturity, and an awn produced from the back of the lemma instead of at the tip.
