Glabrous annual herbs. Stem erect, simple or branched. Leaves sessile. Epicalyx absent. Inflorescence a lax panicle with flowers in dichasia. Calyx 5-toothed, without commissural veins, but with 5 green wings. Petals 5. Stamens 10. Styles 2. Coronal scales absent. Capsule papery, dehiscing by 4 teeth. Carpophore short. Seeds subglobose. 
A small genus with 4 species in the Mediterranean region and S.W. Asia. Represented in Pakistan by a single species.
