  • Saxifraga brunoniana Wall.

    Herb, 5-10 cm high, with red, slender, leafless runners, terminating in a bud. Leaves basally crowded, sessile, 7-11 mm long, elliptic-lanceolate, setose-ciliate, apex aristate, surfaces glabrous. Flowers yellow, 2-4, in corymbs. Pedicels 1-3 cm long, glandular. Sepals 3 mm long, ovate, obtuse, glabrous, basally united. Petals 7 mm long, ovate. Capsule c. 4 mm long. Seeds ellipsoid, very minutely papillose.

    Fl.Per.: July-August.

    Type: “Nepal, in Emodo ad Kumaon Nepaliae” Wallich (G, DC.).

    Distribution: Temperate Himalayas (Sikkim to Kashmir).

    The specimens cited above are from the Kulu area and Kashmir in India, and it is likely that the species is also found in Pakistan. Stewart mentions a specimen, collected by Zaman from Siran Valley, in Hazara but this record needs confirmation.

    Grows on boulders in moist and wet places at 3000-5000 m.
