Ruellia tomentosa Wall.
A small, up to 50 (-60) cm tall, hairy undershrub. Leaves with a 2-4.5 cm long, hairy petiole; lamina elliptic-ovate to lanceolate, 7-10 x 3-4.5 (-5) cm, upper surface densely lineolate with cystoliths, sericeous below, rounded at base, margins crenate, apex acute. Flowers pale blue, c. 2.5 cm long, in 3-8-flowered clusters in 1-sided panicle; bracts linear-ligulate, 8-12 mm long, glandular-pubescent, obtuse; bracteoles similar to and smaller than or equalling calyx lobes. Calyx lobes linear, c. 8-12.5 mm long, glandular-hairy outside and on margins, glabrescent within. Corolla tube cylindrical, glabrous, limb subequally 5-lobed, lobes patent, obtuse. Anthers oblong, connective minutely excurrent. Ovary densely hairy at apex, style sparsely hairy. Capsule linear-oblong, 8-10 mm long, splitting to the base. Seeds mostly 8, discoid, densely hairy, borne on strongly hooked retinacula.
