Plants shorter than the type variety 4-15 (-18) cm, leaves 1-veined, narrower, often basal leaves usually sessile. Capitula usually 1, rarely 2-4 (-5).
Fl. Per.: June-September.
Type: India Orientali, Royle (G-DC.).
Grows among rocks, slopes, stony screes and along streams between 2500-4800 m. Though both the varieties are fairly distinct, but some intermediates are found. Plants with broader leaves and lesser capitula or with narrower leaves with more capitula are also found in our area; Distribution: Pakistan, India, Nepal, Bhutan to China.
