  • Leontopodium alpinum var. alpinum sensu Hook.f.

    Very similar to L. leontopodinum but differs in having cauline leaves ± linear-spathulate acute to subobtuse, capitula (4-) 7-12 (-20) discoid or disciform. Inflorescence bracts linear, lanceolate, much larger than the preceding species, 15-40 x 2-7 mm. Inflorescence diameter across the radiating bracts 2-4 x diameter across the cluster of the capitula.

    Holotype: Sringhur et alibi ad Emodum seu Himalaya, Blinkworth (G-DC), Isotype (K-W!).

    Seems to be less common in our area than the previous species. Grows between 3000-4000 m in open meadows and moist slopes.
