    Glabrous herb. Leaves broadly ovate to suborbicular-reniform, 2.5-10 cm long, 3-10 cm broad, 13-17-nerved, deeply cordate, lobes and lamina very much obtuse; petiole 20-25 cm long. Inflorescence a scapose panicle, 30-60 cm long. Flowers white, c. 8-10 mm across; pedicels erect, l-4 cm long; bracts oblong-lanceolate, 6-10 mm long, acute. Sepals broadly ovate, spreading, 3-4 mm long, 2-3 mm broad, acute, not reflexed in fruit. Petals ovate, 4-5 mm long, 3-4 mm broad, delicate. Stamens with c. 2.5 mm long filaments. Ovaries with persistent somewhat hooked styles. Achenes obovate, 2-3 mm long, dorsally longitudinally ridged, ridges without spiny outgrowths.

    Type: Nepal, Wallich, (K, ? Iso.).

    Distribution: Widely distributed from Pakistan eastwards to India, China and Australia and in Madagascar, tropical and north Africa.

    This species has not so far been collected from our Flora area but is likely to occur in the Punjab plains (fide Hook. f., l.c. 560).
