Plants grass-like. Stem reduced, with the remains of old leaves. Roots tubiferous. Leaves linear, tufted, straight, serrulate towards the base. Scape slender, triquetrous, as long as or shorter than the leaves. Racemes few-flowered. Bracts lanceolate, as long as or shorter than the flowers, margin scabrous. Flowers erect, solitary or in pairs, white-lilac. Anthers linear-oblong, longer than the filaments. Ovary adnate to the perianth segments; 2 ovules in each locule. Style as long as the perianth segments, slightly 3-lobed at the top. Seeds blue, bursting through the fruit wall.

Distribution: Himalayas to Assam, Thailand and W. China.
