Erect perennial, 30-30 cm. Stems shining. branched or not, 4-angled, glabrous or pubescent. Upper portion of stem and pedicles densely glandular hairy. Leaves large, 25-70(-90) x 8-15(-17) mm, linear-lanceolate to ovate lanceolate, sessile, acute to acuminate, surface glabrous to sparsely pubescent, margin ciliate to very minutely papillose. Flowers in cymes. Bracts linear-lanceolate, acuminate, margin scarious. Petals white, as long as or shorter than the sepals. bilobed. Styles 3. Capsule about as long as the sepals, 1-2-seeded. Seeds large tuberculate.

Distribution: S. E. Iran, Afghanistan, Temperate Himalaya, N. Pakistan, Kashmir to Sikkim. Indo-China, W. China.
Common. often in thin forest, from 1800-3650 in. Our plants usually have narrower leaves than those found in Kashmir.
