Type: Nepalia, Wallich.
The type variety is rather common on lower altitudes 1200-2500 (-3500) m, whereas var. speciosa grows at higher elevation, common to 2500-4000 m. The rhizome of both the varieties is used for making tea and decoction. The decoction is diuretic, and also used as expectorant, and in stomach disorders; Distribution: Pakistan-Chitral, Dir, Hazara; Kashmir.
