6. Rumex arcuato-ramosus Rech. f., sp. nov.
Verisimiliter perennis, elatus, caulis tenuiter sulcato-striatus, ramosus. Folia basalia ignota, folia caulina (unicum tantum adest) 8 x 1.7 cm, petiolo brevi crasso 1.5 cm longo, lamina basi late rotundato-truncata, subacuta, tenuis, subplana; nervi tenues, inferiores angulo subrecto, superiores angulo ± 60 a costa mediana abeuntes, glabra; folia caulina (unicum tantum paniculam fulcrantem adest) sessile, a basi latissime truncato-rotundata, fere 7 cm late sensim attenuata, acuta. Panicula ampla, iteratim ramosa, multiflora, iterum tenuiter arcuato-ramosa, aphylla. Pedicelli filiformes, 1.5-2 cm longi, prope basin insensibiliter articulati. Valves 5-6 x 5.5 mm, late orbiculato-cordatae, tenuiter membranaceae, maturitate pallide brunneae, subintegrae; nervatura tenuiter reticulata, maculis marginem versus elongatis: valva anterior callum elongatum munutum, rugulosum, acutum proferens; valvae ceterae nervo mediano incrassato vix calliferae. Nux brunnea, c. 3 mm longa.
Probably perennial. Stem high, sulcate-striate. Basal leaves unknown; stem leaves 8 x 1.7 cm, petiole short, leaf-blade with rounded-truncate base, apex subacute, lamina thin, nearly flat; nerves thin, at 60-90o with the midrib; stem leaves ± sessile, base up to 7 cm broad, truncate-rounded, narrowed towards the ± acute apex from the broad base. Panicle large, repeatedly branched, many-flowered, leafless. Pedicels filiform, 1.5-2 mm long, indistinctly articulate near the base. Valves 5-6 x 5.5 mm broadly orbiculate-cordate membranous, pale brown, nearly entire, thin reticulate, the anterior valve with a small elongate, rugose grain; the other valves with ± thickish midrib, hardly with grain. Nut brown, ± 3 mm long.
Type Kashmir: Mahadey versus Harwan, 8000-9000 ft., June-July 1975, A.H. Munshi 2080 (W).
R. arcuato-ramosus is distinct among the asiatic Rumices by the broad, acute lower leaves, the leafless panicle and the broadly orbiculate-cordate entire valves.
Known from type gathering only.
