17. Rumex paulsenianus x nepalensis
= R. x kaschmirianus Rech f., hybr. nov.
Habitu elato, panicula ampla ad R. paulsenianum accedit. Folia jam emarcida. Pedicelli tenues, quam valvae dimidio usque ad duplo longiores, in quarta circiter parte inferiores articulatae. Valvae cordato-rotundatae evolutione, magnitudine et forma eximie variabiles; maximae transversaliter dilatatae, dentibus inclusis usque ad 8 mm latae, ex emarginatione usque ad 5 mm longae, margine copiose irregulariter denticulatae, dentibus utrinque 9-14; maculae nervaturae basales tantum ± isodiametricae, intermediae et marginales gradatim valde elongatae; calli plerumque nulli, rarius valva anterior costa mediana longitudinaliter incrassata provisa. - Planta omnino fere sterilis.
Stem high, panicle large as in R. paulsenianus. No leaves seen . Pedicels thin, half to twice as long as the valves in fruiting state. Pedicels thin, half to twice as long as the valves in fruit. Valves cordate-rounded, much variable in size and outline. The largest broader than long, including the teeth up to 8 mm large and 5 mm long (measured from the emargination), margin with 9-14 very small and irregular teeth; basal mashes of nervation only isodiametric, the central and marginal ones gradually much elongated; usually no grains developed, rarely the anterior valve with a longitudinally thickened midrib. Plant nearly completely sterile.
Type: Kashmir: Montes Pir Panajal inter Chari Sharif et Yusmarg ad meridiem urbis Srinagar, 2100-2200 m, 26.VIII.1986, inter parentes, K.H. Rechinger fil. 62196 (W.).
There is a similar venation of the valves in all the hybrids of R. nepalensis with long hooked teeth and species with broad entire or shortly toothed valves: the teeth are straight, not hooked. This feature has been extensively discussed by Rech. f. in Feddes Repert. 31: 277-278 (1933) and illustrated (tab. 137 fig. 10).
