The type subspecies has been described from Azerbaijan and from the Northern Caspian lowlands. It has a wide distribution from C Anatolia to Transcaucasia, and from Ucraina to E Kazakhstan. It is absent from Pakistan and neighbouring countries. It differs in having a distinct style ± equalling the stigmas, and in lacking the tepal indument.
