Plants perennial, green, up to 15 cm tall. Internodes 5-18 mm long, linear to oblanceolate. Flowers 4-12 per node, in cupular bracts; perianth lobes 1 mm long, oblanceolate, acute or obtuse, entire, persistent in female flowers. Stamens 3-4, sessile, anthers bilocular. Ovary 0.5 mm long, oblong; stigma sessile. Berry obovoid, 1.5-2 mm long, sub-sessile, 1-seeded; seed 1 mm long, cordate, surrounded by mucilage.
Fl. Per.: May -July.
Type: Described from Japan.
Distribution: China, Japan, Australia, Mauritius, Malacca and the Himalayas.
A fairly common semi-parasitic plant of the hilly regions in W. Pakistan, found usually on oak trees.
