  • Taxillus vestitus (Wall). Danser.

    Plant shrubby; young shoots tomentose. Leaves exstipulate, opposite, elliptic-ovate to lanceolate, 4-7 cm long, entire, acute to obtuse, rusty tomentose on the lower surface; base attenuate; petiole 0.6-1 cm long, tomentose. Flowers sessile, in axillary fascicles, 1.7-2 cm long, rusty tomentose; bract subulate, 1.5 mm long, tomentose. Calyculus 3 mm long, pubescent. Perianth-tube c. 7 mm long, ferruginous, split along one side, lobes 4, 1 cm long, spathulate. Stamens 4, epiphyllous; filaments 7 mm long, glabrous, crimson; anthers 2 mm long. Ovary oblong to obovoid, 3 mm long, tomen¬tose, fused with the calyculus; style crimson, 1.7 cm long; stigma capitate. Fruit ellipsoid, c. 7 mm long, rusty-ferruginous, becoming glabrous. Seed 1, c. 4 mm long, embedded in a viscid pulp.

    Type: Described from “Nepal, Chandagiri and Sheopore,”.

    Distribution: Sub-tropical and W. Himalaya up to 2600 m alt. s.m.

    The plant is parasitic on species of Quercus Linn. and other trees. To be expected in Azad Kashmir.
