Ephedra przewalskyi Stapf in Denkschr. Kaiserl. Akad. Wissensch. Wien. Mat.-Naturw. Kl. 56:40. 1889. (Fig. 6, J, K).
Shrubby plant 1‑2 m tall with whorled yellowish‑green rigid and scabrid branches. Leaves opposite or ternate. Male cones in whorls. Female cones 2‑3flowered; bracts thickened, winged; wings broad. Tubillus straight, c. 1 mm long. Seed 4 mm long.
Type: Several syntypes from (Soviet) Central Asia collected by Potanin & Nzewalski.
Distribution: C. Asia, Karakorams.
