Colchicum kesselringii Regel in Acta Horti Petrop. 8:646. 1883.

  • Colchicum regelii Stef.

    Corm ovoid to oblong, 1-3 x 1-2 cm, coat dark-brown, prolonged into 1-4 cm long tube. Leaves 2-5, appearing with the flowers, linear, apex acute to obtuse. Flowers usually 1-2, whitish with blue-violet stripes on the outside. Perianth segments lanceolate, obtuse, 2-3 cm long; the flower tube long, narrow. Stamens shorter than the perianth; anthers linear, c. 1 cm long, filaments c. 0.5 cm long. Styles 3, free, filiform, as long as or longer than the stamens. Fruit not seen.

    Type: Described from Central Asia (Hissar).

    Distribution: Central Asia, Chitral in Pakistan.

    Very similar to Colchicum luteum but differs in its slightly smaller size and flower colour. In Pakistan it has only been collected from Chitral at c. 3000 m.
