Digitaria eriantha Steud. in Flora, Jena. 12:468. 1829. is a South African species grown at the Agricultural College in Tando Jam (J.J. Norris 166 (K, RAW)). It is barely distinguishable from Digitaria nodosa, but according to Henrard (Monogr. Genus Digitaria 499. 1950) it has tighter racemes, a wingless rhachis and a shorter upper glume. In his key to species (p. 967) he states that the culm bases are not, or scarcely, bulbously thickened in Digitaria eriantha, whereas this is characteristic of Digitaria nodosa.
