Loosely tufted shrub; branches long, robust, laxly leafy. Spring leaves lanceolate, shorter than the summer leaves, scabrid-margined, deciduous; summer leaves plano-convex, strongly pungent, persistent. Scape twice as long as the leaves, branched, 5-6 spikelets arranged in fascicles along the scape. Calyx slightly longer than the inner bract, distinction between the tube and limb obscure; limb folded, truncate, purple.

Type: Afghanistan, Griffith 1577 in Hb. Hooker (K).

Distribution: Baluchistan in W. Pakistan. Iran and Afghanistan.
