Cassia surattensis var. surattensis
A shrub or small tree. Leaves 12.5-22.5 cm long, rachis with conspicuous stipitate glands between 2-4 lower pairs of leaflets; leaflets 4-10 pairs, 2.5-7.5 cm long, elliptic-oblong, glaucous beneath. Flowers creamy yellow in axillary corymbose raceme. Sepals c. 8-9 mm long, broadly oblong or suborbicular, 3 outer smaller than the 2 inner. Petals 1.5-2.7 cm long, broadly oblong, obtuse, shortly clawed. Stamens 10, all perfect. Pod 10-20 cm long, 1.2-1.8 cm broad, flat, 20-30 seeded with raised lines between the seeds.
Distribution: Indigenous to South East Asia, Malay Peninsula, Sumatra and Java.; cultivated in gardens in Lahore, Hyderabad and Karachi districts.
