Plantago atrata subsp. atrata

Perennial, stemless, small herb but flowering in the first year. Leaves linear-lanceolate to lanceolate (4-) 9-16 cm long, (3-) 4-6 mm broad, usually entire, glabrous, rarely slightly pilose. Scapes erect to ascendent, up to 12 (-16) cm long. Spike ovate to short cylindrical, (0.7-) 1-2 cm long. Bracts brownish, broad, 3.5-5 mm long, carinate. Sepals ovate, 2.5-3 mm long with a distinct keel in the lower part, which is more or less pilose, apex rotundate. Corolla lobes narrow ovate, 2-2.5 mm long. Capsule ovoid, conically attenuated. Seeds 2.

Distribution: Europe and Western Asia.
