Amaranthus graecizans subsp. graecizans

  • Amaranthus angustifolius Lam.
  • Amaranthus blitum var. graecizans (L.) Moq.
  • Amaranthus silvestris var. graecizans (L.) Boiss.

The typical subspecies, with the leaf-blade (in particular of the larger leaves of the main stem) at least 2.5 times as long as broad, narrowly oblong to linear-lanceolate. Perianth segments ± abruptly narrowed above, both they and the bracteoles shortly (to c. 0.25 mm.) mucronate, the mucro straight.

The characteristic form of the species in S.W. Asia (Jordan, Iraq, Arabia, southern Iran etc.); I have not seen it from Pakistan although transitional forms to the next subspecies (q.v.) occur. Aellen, l.c., quotes “Baluchistan, Stocks”, but apparently did not see a specimen and probably took the record from Boissier.
