A moderate sized tree, up to 8 m tall. Young twigs stellate hairy, older branches glabrous, dark brown. Leaves with 5-10 mm long, clavate, hairy petiole; lamina ovate-elliptic, 5-15 cm long, 4-8 cm broad, 5-7-costate, unlobed or faintly 3-lobed towards apex, scabrous, stellate hairy on nerves above, soft greyish-tomentose below or almost glabrous, obtuse or subcordate at the base, serrate, acuminate at the apex; stipules linear, 8-10 mm long, hairy. Cymes 2-4-flowered, axillary, peduncles 1-5 together, longer than petiole, villose. Flowers yellow, c. 1.5 cm across; pedicel 6-8 mm long, hairy; bracts subulate, smaller than stipules. Sepals linear-oblong or somewhat elliptic, c. 6-8 mm long, stellate hairy outside. Petals oblong, about half the size of sepals, glabrous, basal gland sometimes absent. Stamens numerous, filaments c. 4 mm long. Ovary densely hairy, 4-loculed. Drupe fleshy, globose or obscurely 2-lobed, c. 4-5 mm in diameter.
Type: Described from Himalayas.
Distribution: From Pakistan eastwards to Burma, between 1000-3000 m.
