    Plants 3.5-15 cm tall. Leaves lanceolate, 1.5-4.5 cm x 5-12 mm. Calyx 3-lobed; lobes coroniform, c. 3.5 mm broad, membranous, venose; the nerves excurrent or not. Achene 3 mm long, shortly turbinate, woolly; the fertile locule ± the size of the sterile pair.

    Fl. Per. April-June.

    Type: ‘Inter segetes Armeniae’, C. Koch.

    Distribution: C. Asia, Iraq, Iran, Syria, Turkey, USSR, Afghanistan and Pakistan.

    Not common. Found in dry arid regions up to 2000 m. The cited specimen from Maslakh (Coll. Bashir Khan) has more prominent calyx dentitions and the corolla is pilose and not glabrous.
