Terminalia crenulata Roth, Nov. Pl.Sp. 380. 1821. R.R.Stewart, l.c.

    A large deciduous tree with somewhat dark grey rough bark, younger parts more or less pubescent. Upper leaves alternate, lower subopposite, variable; elliptic, oblong or ovate, glabrous above, pubescent below, entire or serrulate, 12.5-22.5 x 5-13 cm, petiole 7-10 mm long with 2 glands on either side at the apex. Inflorescence terminal or paniculate spike. Flowers all bisexual, dull yellow, with linear lanceolate bract. Hypanthium c. 2.5 mm long, cup shaped, glabrous or pubescent, teeth triangular, c. 1.5 mm long. Disc velvety hairy. Drupe 3.5-5 cm long, brownish, glabrous with 5 broad wings, wings striations horizontal.

    Type: Described from India.

    Distribution: India, Ceylon.

    This species is wild in east of Kashmir and likely to occur in our region. Hasnain and Rehman (Pl.Kar. & Sind.32.1957) reported this species in cultivation from Sind, but we have not seen any authentic specimens.
