Abutilon fruticosum var. microphyllum (A.Rich.) S.Abedin, comb. et stat.nov..
Abutilon microphyllum A.Rich.
Holotype: Abyssinia Chocho, Petit s.n. (P.!).
Distribution: Pakistan and Ethiopia.
It is a new record from Pakistan and commonly occurs in Sindh. Masters (l.c.) has considered Abutilon microphyllum A.Rich to be conspeci¬fic with Abutilon fruticosum Guill. & Perr. The critical examination of the type specimens of both these taxa indicates that the two taxa are quite distinct. The differentiating characters are, however, not sufficient enough as to keep them separate as species but it is reasonable to give varietal rank. The present variety resembles the var. fruticosum in the fruits but readily differs from the latter by its leaves which are small, orbicular-ovate, usually as long as broad and hoary.
