    Perennial with thick woody rhizomes; culms geniculately ascending, up to 80 cm high. Leaf-blades narrowly lanceolate, rounded at the base, 1-8 cm long, 3-4.5 mm wide, glaucous, rigid, pungent. Panicle erect, 3-10 cm long, 2-4 cm wide, lax; branches solitary or paired, capillary; branchlets 1-3-spiculate. Spikelets 10-14 mm long, excluding the awn; lower glume lanceolate, 6-9.5 mm long, acute; upper glume lanceolate, 8-11.5 mm long, caudate-acuminate; lower lemma 9-12.5 mm long; upper lemma 6-8.5 mm long, with 8 tufts of long hair in a horizontal row on the back; awn 12-16 mm long.

    Fl. & Fr. Per.: October-May.

    Types: Pakistan in Sind and Baluchistan, Stocks 648 (K) and 1141.

    Distribution: Endemic to southern Iran (Baluchistan) and Pakistan (Sind & Baluchistan).

    Dry desert areas.
