Phleum arenarium of Hook.f.Phleum arenarium var. thomsonii Griseb.
Annual; culms 8-20(-35) cm high, usually erect. Leaf-blades up to 13 cm long, 1.5-4(-5) mm wide, glabrous; upper sheaths slightly inflated; ligule 1.5-3 mm long, obtuse. Panicle 1-4(-6.5) cm long, 5-13 mm wide, ovoid or oblong, pale green. Spikelets 2.5-4(-5) mm long (including awns); glumes gradually narrowed into a short awn, scabrid on the sides, stiffly ciliate on the keel, softly hairy on the margins especially above; awn 0.3-0.5 mm long; lemma a third to half. the length of the glumes, 5-nerved, pubescent; anthers 0.5 mm long.

Type: Northwest Himalayas, Thomson (K).
Distribution: Pakistan (N.W.F.P., Gilgit & Kashmir); Afghanistan eastwards to the Himalayas.
